"Unwound:" A Polymer Clay Steampunk Mechanical Bird Necklace

This is my entry for Etsy's Polymer Clay Enthusiasts team's monthly challenge: Steampunk. Steampunk is a genre that has many sides, from cute and whimsical to dark, mysterious, and eerie. The latter side is probably my favorite, and I tried to capture those qualities in my necklace "Unwound." There's just something about a mechanical contraption, almost like it has a mind of it's own. It is neither alive nor dead, but somewhere in between. This piece alludes to the idea of death...yet the bird is not dead, but only unwound.

After the Rain

It's a beautiful rainy May morning. I love how all the green colors outside become so vibrant when the sky is gray, and when it rains, all the smells of the plants and soil become more prominent. This is just the kind of day that inspired "After the Rain."

"Queen of the Sea" Fantasy Wedding Necklace with Polymer Clay Tentacles

After I made a few polymer clay tentacle necklaces, my mom (who also makes jewelry) suggested I start a Sea Fantasy wedding line. I thought that was a great idea. Sea/beach/ocean is such a popular theme for weddings. I figured I could come out with some jewelry and other wedding items that could set a sea wedding apart from the crowd. This necklace is my first wedding item. I have lots more ideas fore more jewelry, crowns/circlets, cake toppers and cake decor, etc. I won't get to start on this until next fall because I'll be gone for the summer and don't plan to take all my craft supplies along, but if you see this and are interested in a custom order for this summer, I'd be more than happy to make something for you--I'm sure they sell craft supplies where I'm going! Here's the listing on Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/listing/74095713/queen-of-the-sea-fantasy-wedding
